Saugerties – Vickie Hurttlen died Wednesday August 23, 2023 at home. She was born March 25, 1941.
Vickie grew up up in Jersey City, New Jersey, and attended New York University
She taught art for many years at Curtis High School in Staten Island, New York, where she ultimately retired.
Vickie was a talented painter and loved art history. Vickie loved to travel abroad in the summers during her time as a teacher. She spent a lot of time in New York City enjoying the art museums and especially Broadway shows. She also loved cats and had many throughout the years
Vickie married her husband Norman later in life, and moved to Saugerties New York where she discovered her love of gardening and the outdoors. After living in the city for so many years, she cherished their quiet life in the country. As well as, came to adore the friendships that were born. Stemming from the community. Where she and Norman would host dinners, and the occasional card game amongst friends. Enjoying evenings out on the patio. Surrounded by Vickie's meticulously maintained flower gardens, throughout the grounds, which she was extremely proud of.
She is survived by her niece and nephew Peggy Delaney and Richard Underwood
She was predeceased by her husband Norman, sister Maggie Underwood, brother Wille Jones and nephew John Underwood.
As per Vickie's wishes, a private service was held and she was interred next to her husband and brother in Katsbaan Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Buono Funeral Service, Inc. in Saugerties, NY. Please offer your condolences for Vickie and her family online at
