Rose Mayone Sasso passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, at Ten Broeck Commons where she has resided for four years. Her husband of 73 years, John, passed away in December of 2014. She was the daughter of Mary Buonfiglio Mayone and John Mayone of Glasco and was born on January 27, 1921. Rose was a loving mother to two daughters, Linda Sasso of Glasco and Patricia Tonzi of Fountain Hills, AZ, and her husband Travis, beloved grandmother to Steven Tonzi and his wife Michelle and great-grandmother to Alexandria and Reese Tonzi of Oceanside, Long Island. She is survived by two sisters, Marietta Carpino of Kingston and Delores Parise of Red Hook and two brothers, Edward Mayone (Joan) of Lake Katrine and John Mayone, Jr. (Edith) of Saugerties. A brother, Joseph Mayone, pre-deceased Rose. Also surviving are cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Glasco, she worked at several clothing factories in Glasco and Saugerties and belonged to St. Joseph's Church all her life. Rose was happiest when she could cook for her family and many friends. She was delighted so long as she could feed someone and entertaining was an art form to her. Many family holidays were spent happily at her home. When her daughters were growing up, their friends were always welcomed and well-fed by Rose. She was known for her kindness, generosity and loving spirit. She will be sorely missed.
A Procession will form 9:15 am, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc and then proceed to St. Joseph's Church in Glasco where a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, MArch 18, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Buono Funeral Service, Inc. The family would like to express their gratitude to the entire staff of Ten Broeck Commons for the wonderful care given to Rose.
