OBITUARY Saugerties ? Robert A. Yerick, former Mayor of the Village of Saugerties, died Wednesday, October 03, 2012 at Kingston Hospital following a brief illness. He was 82 years old. Born December 7, 1929 in Philmont, NY, he was the son of William Sr. and Lillian Kilmer Yerick. On December 30, 1950 he married his wife of 51 years, the former Janet Althea Wasner, who predeceased him on January 9, 2002. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, upon his discharge from the US Navy in 1953, Bob and his wife came to Saugerties in search of employment. They stayed, raised their family and made it their life long home. After a diverse career including 33 years at IBM, Bob retired and became actively involved in Village of Saugerties Politics. He served 12 years as mayor and along with his colleagues brought his ?New Vision? policies to fruition in the community. One of his most rewarding and lasting legacies is the Community Beautification Project he shepherded in the Village. Always active in his community, he was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Snow Church and a member of the Lamouree-Hackett Post #72 American Legion where proudly served as a member of the post honor guard. Over the years Bob was the recipient of many awards and honors including: NYS JayCee of the Year, NYS Senate certificate of Merit, The Pride of Ulster County Award and serving as July 4th Parade Grand Marshall. In 2010 the NYS Assembly and other local politicians honored him by declaring ?Bob Yerick Day? Survivors include his six daughters, Diane Hauck and her husband Leslie of Parkland, Fl, Roberta Markgraf and her husband David of Charlotte, NC, Susan Every and her husband Robert of Highfalls, NY, Deborah Cafaldo and her husband Francis of Saugerties, NY, Ann Marie Yerick of Saugerties, NY, and Beverly Boeving and her husband Daniel of Charlotte, NC; his sister, Dorothy Bowes and her husband Robert of Philmont, NY; ten grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his dear friend and companion of eight years, Patricia Harbinger. He was also pre-deceased by his brother, William Yerick, Jr. A Funeral procession will form 9:15 AM Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., and then proceed to St. Mary of the Snow where a 10:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment with full military honors will follow immediately in Blue Mountain Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Friday from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Buono Funeral Service, Inc.
