Palenville - Robert "Rabbit" Owens died Saturday, March 14, 2015 at home. He was 81 years old.

Born August 27, 1933 in Saugerties, he was the son of Charles and Edna Mack Owens. He married Barbara Flicker on May 23, 1958, she pre-deceased him on March 22, 2014.

He was a fuel oil delivery man first for Cody and then Amos Post. During the Korean War he served in the US Army, he was a 58 year member of the American Legion. A life member, past chief and exempt member of Palenville Fire Company, he was also a member of GCVFA, HVVFA and FASNY. He was a long time SAA baseball and softball player and was inducted into the Saugerties Sports Hall of Fame. Along with his wife he also bowled for many years. He was also an avid Hunter, a fisherman, and life member of the NRA.

Survivors include his sister Beverly Brandow; sisters-in-law Frances Owens, Gertrude Strbich, Patricia Ricks, Shirley Brown and Dorothy Tienken; Nieces and Nephews Darrell, Dawn, Russell, and Donald Converse, Kimberly Brandow, Denise Brandow, Darlene Lee, Charles Owens, Debbie McGraf, Kenny Strbch, Kevin Strbich, Laurie Diec, Peggy VanWagenen, Richard Ricks, Karen Brodhead, Donna Miller, Jeanie Hillje, Walter Hillje, Wendy Brown, Cliff Tienken Jr, and Kelly Umana; his god daughter Belinda Converse; and his dear friend Hans Schumacher. In addition to his wife he was pre-deceased by his sister Lorraine Converse and his brother Carl Owens.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday March 20, 2015 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties, NY. Interment will be in Katsbaan Cemetery in the Spring. Friends may call Wednesday 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Thursday 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Buono Funeral Service, Inc. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Center, 262 Danny Thomas Place,
