Obituary

Saugerties – Robert G. Carpenter, 86, of Saugerties passed peacefully at home on April 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving and supportive family. Born in West Camp, NY on July 7, 1936, he was the son of the late Valmore and Mildred (Neher) Carpenter of West Camp. On December 25, 1956, he married the love of his life, Shirley (Mauro) Carpenter with whom he shared 67 devoted years.
Robert was a graduate of Saugerties High School Class of 1954 and Hudson Valley Community college, as well as furthering his studies at Fairleigh Dickenson University. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, honorably serving his country In Korea, and was a member of the American Legion Post 72.
Upon graduation, Robert worked as an Electrical Engineer at Bell Research Labs in NJ, and then IBM until his retirement in 1990. Robert was a lifetime parishioner as well as an active member of St. Mary of the Snow/St. Joseph's Church. He was a former member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, St. Joseph's Holy Name Society, chaired the Saugerties Village Water/Sewer Advisory Board, served on the Town of Saugerties Planning Board and Town of Saugerties Water Advisory Board. In addition, he was a member of the Saugerties Lion's Club and other local clubs, association and sports teams.
Survivors include his wife Shirley (Mauro) Carpenter, his sons Dr. Robert D. Carpenter of Scottsdale, AZ, Kevin Mauro Carpenter and his wife, Lucy Carpenter, and Dennis Scott Carpenter, all of Saugerties; his cherished grandchildren Dr. Robert D. Carpenter, Jr and his wife Jacqueline, Kevin M. Carpenter and his wife, Stephany, Michael Carpenter (Carli Booth), and Matthew M. Carpenter, as well as his treasured great-grandchildren Kevin and Summer Carpenter, and sister-in-law, Kathleen Carpenter of Utica. Also surviving are several dedicated nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and close friends. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Richard N. Carpenter and his nephew Richard Carpenter.
The Carpenter Family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to VA Dr. Eugene Kim and Nurse Sophia Apraku for the excellent care given to our loved one, and to those who lovingly visited and supported us throughout his illness. Expression of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Services will be under the direction of Buono Funeral Service, Inc, with calling hours on Tuesday, Aprill 11th, from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm , and a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Wednesday, April 12th at 11:00 am at St. Joseph's Church in Glasco, NY.
