Saugerties – Richard F. Coppey died Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. He was 80 years old.

Born October 6, 1935 in Bronx, NY he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth McPartland Coppey. On March 9, 1957 he married the former Barbara Terwilliger with whom he recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. He retired from Rotron where he was employed as a tool and dye maker for over 40 years.

He graduated from Samuel Compers High School, Bronx, NY in 1954.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 – 1959 and was stationed in France.

A parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at St. John the Evangelist Church in Centerville, he was also a former member of the Saugerties Athletic Association and the Highwoods Sportsman's Club. Together with his wife he was a member of the Lefooters Square Dance Club for many years.

He was an avid biker and loved the outdoors.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three children, Richard Coppey, Jr and his wife Theresa of Saugerties, Ann Sauer and her husband Daniel of Clifton Park, and Steven Coppey and his fiancé Danielle McCutcheon; six grandchildren; and two great Grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by two infant children, Mark J. and Lisa Ann; his brother Joseph Coppey; and his sister Mary Danton.

A Funeral procession will form 9:15 AM Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties, NY and then proceed to St. John the Evangelist Parish Center in Centerville, where a 10:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment with full military honors will follow immediately in St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery, Barclay Heights.
