Malden-on-Hudson, NY – Ralph H. Simmons, Jr., a Korean War veteran and a retired IBM Employee died June 30, 2019. Ralph retired from IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY after 35 years of service as a Senior Administrative Specialist and also worked at the Kingston site for the first 20 years of service and was a member of its Quarter Century Club.

Ralph served in the US Army during the Korean War with the 25th Infantry Division 25th Signal Co. During much of this time, he was assigned to the Turkish Brigade on the front lines where his responsibilities were to receive and transmit teletype communication between front lines and rear areas. When at the rear area he was the non-commissioned officer in charge. He received the Korean Service Medal awarded with 2 bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal awarded on the 50th anniversary of the Korean War with a letter of appreciation from the President of the Republic of South Korea. Ralph is a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 5034 of Saugerties, NY as well as a member of Post 72 American Legion in Saugerties.

Ralph graduated from Saugerties High School class of 1949 and from Albany Business College Class of 1955. He is a life member of the International Honorary Commerce Fraternity, Phi Theta Pi, Psi chapter.

Ralph was a longtime and active member of the St, John's United Methodist Church of Malden-on-Hudson, NY, becoming a member in 1946. He has served on many committees and has been a trustee of the church and on the administrative board since 1953. Ralph also served as chairman of the board from 1965 to 1992 and from 1994 to July 1999 when he resigned from that position. Ralph supplied the church with greens for the advent season for over 40 years. He was an active lay leader and lay speaker for many years, as well as a teacher for young teenagers. Ralph also an avid traveler. Ralph has been working mre recently as a helper for Gary's Hauling, Gary J. Barker, Debris Removal Specialist.

Ralph was born May 6, 1930 in Malden-on-Hudson, NY. He was the son of the late Louise A. Lowe Simmons and the late Ralph H. Simmons Sr. His paternal grandparents were the late Andrew and Svea Carlson and his maternal grandparents were the late Charles T. and Josephine Myer Lowe. Ralph is survived by numerous cousins and many dear, faithful and loyal friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Monday, July 8, 2019 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc. in Saugerties. Interment will follow immediately in Mount Marion Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm until 9"00 pm at Buono Funeral Service, Inc.
