OBITUARY Saugerties – Paul R. Whitaker, 51 of Churchland Road, passed away at his home on May 5, 2011. He was born July 4, 1959 to Joan (Mower) Whitaker and the late Albert W. Whitaker. He has been a life long Saugerties resident, graduating from Saugerties High School in the Class of 1977. Paul worked several years for the Town of Saugerties Police Dept. and then for 29 years at the Town of Saugerties Highway Department. He was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church, a Life member of Centerville Fire Co., and a 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus Council #4536. Every weekend, year after year, he would be seen in front of local retail stores selling raffle tickets to raise money for his church, his fire company, and his Knights of Columbus Council. He loved meeting so many wonderful people and endeared himself to the people of Saugerties and surrounding area while performing a great community service. Paul is survived by his mother, Joan Whitaker; his brother, Mark Whitaker; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and also by his beloved friend and caregiver, Heather Wilber. A Funeral procession will form 9:15 AM Monday at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., and then proceed to St. John the Evangelist Parish Center in Centerville, where a 10:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow immediately in Blue Mt. Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Buono Funeral Service, Inc.
