SAUGERTIES - Myrtle T. Overbagh died on Friday, August 5, 2016 at HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley Broadway Campus in Kingston. She was born in Saugerties, New York on November 9, 1915. She was the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Teetsel, and the devoted sister of Shirley Teetsel, who pre-deceased her in July , 1981. She married her beloved "Gar", Gerald H. Overbaugh on April 14, 1940. His death in January, 1984, left a void in her heart that would never be filled.
Myrtle discovered a passion for golf and bowling that consumed her life. She was a long-time member of the Wiltwyck Golf and Country Club for well over 50 years, serving as secretary of the Board of Directors, and golf chairperson of the ladies division. She held several offices for the Ulster County Women's Golf Association. She was a very competitive golfer and won many trophies at several coursed and tournaments around the area. She played until the age off 90, but visitors to her home "on the hill" could not help but notice her clubs in the laundry room, just waiting in case she ever wanted to "take a few Swings."
She was a member of the Quarryville United Methodist Church servimg as Financial Secretary for the church for 44 years. She also served a a member of the Saugerties Area Council of Churches. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Children's Home in KIngston. For a period of time , she also helped provide leadership for "The Well" in Saugerties.
She is survived by her nephew, Rev. Timothy S. Woycik and his wife Christannn of Chesaning, Michigan; a brother-in-law, Ted Overbaugh, of Rhinebeck, New York and several devoted friends and neighbors. We would especially like to thank the wonderful staff at Mountain Valley Manor for their tireless love and care for "Boo"
A memorial service to celebrate Myrtle's life will be held on Thursday, September 22 at 6 p.m. at the at the Quarryville United Methodist Church. Rev. Cathy Schuyler and Rev. Timothy Woycik will conduct the service.
