Obituary

Glasco – Reverand Monsignor Charles F. Zanotti, former pastor of St. Joseph's Church, passed into eternal life Sunday, January, 29, 2017 at The Cardinal O'Connor Residence in the Bronx. He was 89 years old and 63 years a priest.

Born June 6, 1927 in Lover Trento, Italy he was the son of Joseph and Ann (Henderyckx) Zanotti. His family moved to New York City in 1930 where grew up, attended public school, All Hallows High School and graduated from Cathedral Prep and St. Joseph Seminary. Ordained on May 30, 1953, his first assignment was at St. Clement's on Staten Island. Eventually he served parishes in East Harlem, where he learned Spanish, the south Bronx, several more on Staten Island, St. Andrews in Ellenville and Our Lady of Lourdes in Kerhonkson. On September 1, 1984 he became pastor of St. Joseph's Church in Glasco where he served more than 30 years until his retirement.

In 2006 Father Charles was elevated to Monsignor by Pope Benedict XVI, he spent his life in service, training and mentoring altar boys, working with college students, The Daughters of Mary, hospital patients, and other community members. He served as chaplain in the Bronx to the Fort Apache Police Precint and Lincoln Hospital. In 1965 he helped coordinate the visit of Pope Paul VI to Yankee Stadium. Fluent in Spanish, Fr. Charles conducted weekly Masses in Spanish and served the Spanish speaking community wherever he was stationed up to his last days.

His surviving family includes, his brother, Frank Zanotti and his wife Marilyn; his nieces and nephews Kathleen Genovese and her husband Ronald, Robert Genova and his wife Diane, Thomas Genova and his wife Diane, Richard Genova and his wife Rebecca, Robert Zanotti and his wife Julia, and Gilda Genova; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother Joseph and his sister Louise Genova.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 3, 2017 at St. Joseph Church in Glasco. His Emminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York will officiate. Interment will follow immediately in St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery in Barclay Heights. Monsignor will lie in repose in St. Joseph's Church beginning 2:00 PM Thursday, February 2 and continuing until 4:00 PM and then again from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties, NY.
