Mount Marion – Michael Saban, 72 of Mount Marion, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018. Michael was born in Manhattan, NY, on January 24, 1946 and was the son of Ljubomir Saban. He was a graduate of George Washington High School, Class of 1963.

After graduation, Michael served in the Army in Fort Benning, Georgia. He then attended and graduated from Westchester Community College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He held various jobs in the automotive industry before moving to Mount Marion, New York in 1976 where he worked for his good friend Tom Reddy of Tom Reddy Toyota in Kingston. In 1986 he opened Mike Saban Sales, a supplier of Autobody shop supplies and equipment and was known to his customers as The Moustache.

Michael was an avid sportscar enthusiast throughout his life and was crew chief for Mazda Racing in the 1970's and worked on vintage race cars in later years.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Diane Schmidt-Saban, his mother-in-law Jean Schmidt of Oneonta, New York, and sisters-in-law, Mary Myers (William) of Morris, New York, and Jeanine Casal of Leeds, New York and his beloved cat Hobie. Also his good friends Frank Besaw of Lake Katrine, NY and Dennis Kerr of Holland, PA who helped and supported him through the years.

The family will receive friends at Buono Funeral Service, Inc in Saugerties on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Wednesday, April 25 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Michael's memory be made to The American Diabetes Association or the American Kidney Fund.
