Saugerties, NY – Michael E. Malone died Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Columbia Memorial Hospital surrounded by all his loving family, while listening to his favorite tunes. He was a 66 year old life-long resident of Saugerties.
Born March 26, 1957, in Kingston, he was the son of the late John F. Malone and the late Martha Moore Malone. A Machinist by trade he was long employed by Ferroxcube later Phillips Corp and Elna Ferrite all in Saugerties. He had also worked many years for Iron Mountain in the Maintenance Department prior to his early retirement.
Known for his "McGyver Skills" he could fix anything and frequently took things apart just to put them back together. A skilled carpenter, he also renovated and rebuilt the family home nearly entirely by himself. He enjoyed photography, his Harley motorcycle, and music of all kinds although Pink Floyd was his all-time favorite. Hunting, fishing and camping were favorite past times along with his love of his gun collection.
Described as a unique character who lived life on his own terms, he had a penchant for spontaneous adventure and often did things at the spur of the moment. People were drawn to his charming personality and charisma, and he was well known to go out of his way for anyone, anytime anywhere, friends and strangers alike. His quick wit lent itself to a unique sense of humor. But he will be best remembered for his heart of gold and being close to his grandchildren, an incredible father, and having considered family his proudest achievement.
Survivors include his daughter Amanda Beatty and her Husband Michael W. of Acra; his grandchildren Mason and Hailey; his brother Jack Malone and his wife Cassie of East Durham, his sister Betsy Converse and her husband Don of Saugerties; his nieces and nephew Laura, Karen, Jessica, Sean and Kelly; and is grandnephew Jack. Several cousins and many dear friends also survive.
