Mary Elizabeth Pietkiewicz, 91, of Barclay Lane in Saugerties, passed away peacefully at
home, surrounded by her loving family, on October 9, 2025. Born on July 4, 1934, in Newton,
Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Alexina (McEachern) Ross.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She shared nearly 70
years of marriage with her beloved husband, Deacon Karl Pietkiewicz, building a life centered around
family, faith, and love. A dedicated homemaker, Mary took immense joy in caring for her
children, later spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A woman of deep faith, Mary was a long-time parishioner of St. Mary of the Snow Church,
often attending daily Mass and actively participating in parish life. She was a member of the
Altar Rosary Society, involved in Marriage Encounter and Christian Family Movement,
and was one of the founding members of the Saugerties Columbiettes. She and Karl also spent
a year with the Archdiocesan Parish Mission Team, traveling and ministering to the parishes
across the Archdiocese of New York.
In addition to her role at home, Mary held several professional positions throughout her life. She
worked at Wonder Bread, Canfield Supply, Ryan Roach and Ryan LLP, and IBM. For over
15 years, she volunteered at Benedictine Hospital, reflecting her lifelong commitment to
service and community.
Mary had a passion for the arts and enjoyed quilting —with quilts crafted for her children and
grandchildren, embroidering—earning prizes at the New York State Fair—and playing the
organ -- for joy at home and at several parish churches. She loved camping and traveling,
especially trips to Europe, Nova Scotia and annual winter getaways to Florida.
She is survived by her husband Karl, and their five children: Katherine Bollin (Gary), Theresa
Morris (Paul), John Pietkiewicz, Mari Beth Malloy (Michael), and Robert Pietkiewicz (Lynn
Sarnowski). She also leaves behind seven grandchildren (Karlamarie Bollin, Garielle Bollin
(Peter Bermejo), Evan Bollin (Olivia), Michaela Duff (Ian), Megan Frain (Don), Krista Morris,
and Amy Morris), and five great-grandchildren (Ivy and Isla Bermejo, Vivian Duff, and
Samuel and Charlotte Bollin) all of whom brought her great joy.
In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her five brothers: Stanley, Jack, Fr Bob,
Charlie, and Paul Ross. Mary was very proud of her Ross family Scottish heritage.
