Flatbush – Marion E. (Knudsen) Swart died Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at home surrounded by her family. She was 88 years old.


Born May 19, 1936 in Jamaica, Queens, she was daughter of the late Thor E. Knudsen and the late Elsie M. Cornell Knudsen. Later, she moved with her family to the Flatbush area of Saugerties where she met her husband of 66 years, Robert L. Swart. They were married on June 7, 1958.


In 1957, Marion graduated the Vassar Hospital Nursing School in Poughkeepsie and formerly worked as a Registered Nurse at Kingston Hospital. After raising her children on the Swart Family Farm in Flatbush, she began to care for many of her elderly neighbors and took many into her family home and the fold of her family for many years. A skilled artisan in many traditional crafts, her creations are held dearly by all who enjoy them.


In addition to her husband, survivors include her son Thomas R. Swart; her daughters June Swart Dittus, Eileen Swart Giannone, and Patricia Swart Hanson; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces nephews and cousins.
