Saugerties - Loretta Catherine Schmitt Amrod, 90, of Spaulding Lane, a loving and hard-working wife and mother, died on Monday, April 27, 2015, at Kingston Hospital.. Born January 9, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Barbernitz) Schmitt.

A registered nurse, Loretta received her training at Saint Joseph's School of Nursing in Baltimore. After coming to New York, she was employed by Benedictine Hospital; working late night shifts there while her children were young. Later she worked at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, New York. She was a longtime member of Saint Mary of the Snow Church in Saugerties.

Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Amrod. Surviving are her six children: Sr. Claudia Amrod, CSJ, of Latham, New York; Loretta Beaumont and her husband, Tom, of Bradenton, Florida and Prince Frederick, Maryland; Jai Amrod of Columbia, Missouri; Barbara Petrus and her husband, Paul, of Lakewood Ranch, Florida; Mark Amrod of Saugerties, New York; and Karen Ingle and her husband, Nick, of Glenmont, New York; her brother, Edward Schmitt, of Beltsville, Maryland; her sister, Angela Higgins, of Linthicum Heights, Maryland. She is survived by six grandchildren (Amanda Beaumont Parsons and her husband, Ronnie; Paul A. Petrus; Nicholas Petrus and his wife, Andrea; Jessica Petrus and her husband, Josh; Ryan and Cameron Ingle; and three great grandchildren (Haley Parsons, Riley Parsons, and Jackson Petrus); and many nieces and nephews.

The family will celebrate her life at a Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at St. Mary of the Snow Church in Saugerties. Interment will follow immediately in St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery Barclay Heights. Arrangements are under the guidance of Buono Funeral Service, Inc, Saugerties, NY
