Saugerties - Lidia C. Meeker of the Town of Saugerties passed away on October 10, 2022. She was 94.
The daughter of the late Anthony Almeida and Alzira Albuquerque Almeida, Claire was born on March 27, 1928 in Ludlow, MA, and as a young girl moved to Newburgh, NY, where she resided for the majority of her lifetime.
Claire graduated from the Newburgh Free Academy in 1945. She met the love of her life, Lt Col Charles E. Meeker, Jr at the Officers Club at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, NY on a blind date set up by her sister Alice. They would go on to marry 5 months later, raise a family, and be together for 62 years until his passing in 2016. Claire often spoke of their travels and the places they lived while in the military. They lived in Japan and Guam before settling in Newburgh, NY.
Claire loved people, music, and storytelling. She had a wonderful sense of humor that never left her. She was a one of kind treasure who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her sister Mary Irving, her brother Joseph Almeida, and her sister Alice Fratz.
She is survived by her three children; Lt Col Gary C. Meeker and wife Cheryl, Dawn Lynn Mangan and husband Bob, and Larry A. Meeker and wife Madeline, five grandchildren; Heather Rieker and husband Mike, Brittany Meeker, Scott Brady, Danielle Meeker, Julienne Meeker, three great grandchildren; June Rieker, Brady Rieker, and Callen Rieker.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, October 14, 2022 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc. in Saugerties. Intombment will follow immediately in the Mausoleum at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, NY. Friends may call Friday from 9:00 am until 1030 am at Buono Funeral Service, Inc.
