Obituary

OBITUARY Saugerties – Lawrence Peter Traube died on Monday December 15, 2014 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY. Mr. Straub struggled for many years with Parkinson's Disease. He had a great love for the English Language, the Marx Brothers, the NY Giants, Artie Shaw and Frank Sinatra. His quick wit, fairness and enthusiasm will be missed. Mr. Traube was born in Manhattan on December 31, 1926. He grew up in Yonkers, NY. Upon graduation from high school, he served in World War II in the US Army 88th Division in Italy. He and his wife Sally lived in Manhattan for many years. In 1967 they bought a derelict farmhouse in Saugerties, NY. They suffered from the naïve idea that they could "fix it up". Decades later, the house is snug, but still needs fixing. In Manhattan, Mr. Traube worked for many years for Avis Rental Car. Subsequently, he directed the City College Writing Center and was then a senior advisor for New York University. Survivors are his wife, Sally: a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Lauter; his son, Richard: and his beloved cats. Cremation services were under the direction of Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties, NY.
