OBITUARY Saugerties – Joseph A. Mazzola died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY. He was 73 years old. Joe was born April 20, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY the son of Frank and Carmela Filosa Mazzola. His wife Dolores passed away on February 2, 2008. He retired from the New York Daily News in 1990. Prior to his employment he served in the US Navy for 10 years from 1954 until 1964; during which time he was inducted into the Sons of Neptune when he "crossed the line", the initiation rite for crossing the equator. He was a member of the American Legion in Brooklyn Post #1060 and Saugerties Post #72. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 35 years, first at Council # 4541 in Brooklyn and later at Council #4536 in Saugerties. NY. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Color Guard. Survivors include his daughter, Loretta Falco of Margaretville, NY; four grandchildren, Toni-Ann Gavette, Felicia Falco, Joseph, Falco, and Ralph Falco; two great-grandchildren, Antonia and Amorelle; his niece, Lori DuBord and her husband Dave of Stone Ridge, NY; nephew, Greg Brown and his wife Jane of Accord, NY; and seven grand nieces & nephews Michael, Jillian, and Justin Brown and Dylan, Daniell, Nicole, and Loren DuBord. A Funeral procession will form 9:00 AM Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, NY and then proceed to St. Catherine Laboure Church in Lake Katrine, where a 10:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Fr. Kearney, Pastor of St. Catherine Laboure will officiate. Interment will follow immediately in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kingston. Friends may call Tuesday from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Buono Funeral Service, Inc.
