Saugerties – John W. Lasher Jr. died Saturday, November 28, 2015 at HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley Broadway Campus in Kingston. He was 79 years old.

Born July 12, 1936 in Saugerties, he was the son John Sr. and Mary Cotton Lasher. On September 6, 1959 he married the former Jean Holgerson. He retired from Verizon where he worked as a lineman.

A life member of the Saxton Fire Co., he also served as both Assistant Chief and Chief of the Saxton Fire District. For many years he played softball for the fire company team in the SAA. He was a former Boy Scout and Boy Scout Leader. He also loved camping and traveling with his family.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his two sons John Lasher III and his wife Miche of Greensboro, NC and Chris Lasher and his wife Lisa of Sophia, NC; four grandchildren Marnie, Nicholas, John and Jordan; and by three siblings Dorothy Vesey of Virginia, Eleanor Henkle of Saugerties and Thomas Lasher of Saugerties.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties, NY. Rev. Charles Stickley will officiate. Interment will follow immediately in Palenville Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Buono Funeral Service, Inc. In lieu of flowers the family recommends donations in his memory be made to Saxton Fire Co. 3853 Route 32, Saugerties, NY 12477.
