Obituary

Saugerties – Francis Joseph "Frank" Kandora died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. He was 86 years old.

Born June 17, 1928 in the Bronx, he was the son of Valentine and Angela Zientek Kandora. On May 23, 1953 at St. Michaels Church in Brooklyn, he married Brunhilde Enke. He attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn for two years and after more than 50 years of service he retired from Mason Union #1 in New York. As a foreman he was responsible for building in New York City over the years. After visiting the area for many years he and his wife moved permanently to Saugerties upon his retirement .

Frank served as a medic in the US Army during WWII and was a member of Lamouree Hackett Post # 72 American Legion. In Brooklyn, he was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Catherine of Genoa. He was a very active parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Centerville where he served as an usher, lector and Eucharistic Minister and worked regularly with the parish food pantry. He made trips to the Holy Land and Medjugorje and was the person who brought his wife into the church.

In addition to his wife Brunie; he is survived by three sons, Thomas and his wife Molly of Queensbury, NY, James and his wife Toni of Norwich, NY and Peter and his wife Pam of Charlestown, WV; 12 grandchildren, Sarah Jones and her husband Matt, Brian Kandora and his wife Jamie, Michael Kandora, Douglas Kandora and his wife Patricia, Richard Kandora, Rebecca Kandora, Amanda LaPell, Stephanie LaPell, Gregory Kandora, Angela Bogart and her husband Paul, Acadia Kandora and Kai Kandora; and three great-grandchildren, Khloe, Kailey, and Jenice.

A Funeral procession will form 9:15 AM Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties, NY and then proceed to St. John the Evangelist Parish Complex in Centerville, where a 10:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow immediately in Blue Mt. Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Buono Funeral Service, Inc. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to St. John's Food Pantry.
