OBITUARY Saugerties – Elfriede A. "Ellie" Geskie died Wednesday May 26, 2010 at Kingston Hospital in Kingston. She was 87 years old. She was born April 28, 1923 in Leipzig, Germany, the daughter of Paul and Hedwig Nicklewitz Meier. Her husband, Vincent Geskie died July 18, 1989. A parishioner of St. John the Evangelist in Centerville, she was a member and past president of the Altar Rosary Society. She is also a former member of the Saugerties Columbiettes. Upon moving to Saugerties in 1964 she instituted the original Saugerties Answering Service. She also worked as a seamstress in various local Dress Factories eventually becoming a self employed dress maker and seamstress. She enjoyed all types of needle craft and sewing belonging to several social clubs involving those activities including the Blue Mountain Home Extension Club. Survivors include her son, James Geskie of Saugerties; two daughters, Veronica Doyle and Judy Beckert with whom she resided, both also of Saugerties; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was pre-deceased by her brother, Bernard Meier and son-in-law Michael Beckert. A Funeral procession will form 10:15 AM Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, NY and then proceed to St. John the Evangelist Parish Center in Centerville, where a 11:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow immediately in St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery, Barclay Heights. Friends may call Friday from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Buono Funeral Service, Inc.
