OBITUARY Saugerties – Eileen Gaebel passed away suddenly Sunday October 27, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY. She was 56 years old. At her bedside during the week was her devoted husband, Klaus, her loving daughter, Karisa, and her very close friends Liz and Pat Flannery. Born April 22, 1957 in Kingston, NY, she was the daughter of Harry and Delta Williams Zehnick. She was raised from childhood by her God Parents, Walt and Mary Wilson. On March 28, 1981 she married the love of her life, Klaus Gaebel, at St. Joseph's Church in Glasco, NY. She was employed by Benedictine Hospital in various clerical duties for more than 35 years and most recently was in Outpatient Scheduling for HealthAlliance, the successor of Benedictine Hospital. She enjoyed getting together with family and hosting friends, entertaining, and loved both cooking and baking and taking care of the cats she had in her life. She loved to travel, having been to Europe over six times, and enjoyed bringing back gifts for the children of friends. Eileen was very active in her daughter's life, from school activities to her daughter's equestrian events and taking care of Texas Star – the horse owned by the daughter. Both a loving and devoted mother and wife, she leaves loving memories to be cherished by her surviving husband of 32 years, Klaus Gaebel and their daughter, Karisa Gaebel, who is an extremely successful student at Western New England University in Massachusetts, and will begin her accounting career with a top-four accounting firm after graduation. In addition survivors include her siblings, Tommy Zehnick and his wife Jill of Lake Katrine, Sharon Filipowiez and her husband Ralph of Rifton, Harriet Zehnick of Kerhonkson, Dolores Banks and her husband Ronald of Esopus, and Jack Zehnick and his wife Cookie of Sawkill; and her sister in law, Lela Smith of Saugerties. She was pre-deceased by two sisters, Beatrice Felt and Rose Rosekrause; and by two brothers, Rusty and Edward Smith. Surviving in-laws include brother-in-law Peter Gaebel and his wife Nancy, their son Peter Jr., his wife Kelly and their children Zachary and Benjamin; sister-in-law Monica Gaebel and her husband Kenneth of Phoenicia, their sons Kenneth Palmer of Ulster and Julian Palmer of Phoenicia and their daughter Erika Palmer at Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach; brother-in-law Michael Gaebel of Tampa; brother-in-law Ronald Gaebel and his wife Venus of Catskill and their sons Ryan and Matthew. Also surviving are her Uncle by marriage, Dieter Gaebel and his wife Linda of Holbrook, NY and their children Robert and Christine; her Uncle by marriage, Norbert Gaebel and his wife Sheryl of Frankenmuth, MI, and their child Ashley; her Aunt by marriage, Ingelore Wöhnke and her husband Klaus and their children Claus and Stefan, all of Germany; and very dear friends in Saugerties, Liz and Pat Flannery and their children, Sabrina and Rich Franchini, Lynn and Mike Abate, Bonnie and Paul VanBenschoten, and Joann and Dennis Cooper. Funeral services will be held Noon on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties. Interment of cremains will follow immediately in Blue Mt. Cemetery.
