Montreal, Canada –Deacon Perry Bunyar passed away peacefully on Monday, April 11, 2016. He was 97 years old.

Born January 14, 1918 in Independence, KS. He was the son of Perry and Esther Knight Bunyar. He married the former Mary Catherine Martin who predeceased him on December 17, 2006.

An Electrical Engineer, retired from IBM, Kingston, he was a parishioner of St. Mary's of the Snow Church, a member of the Holy Name Society, and a member of the Knights of Columbus 4536. He was ordained Deacon in the Archdiocese of NY on February 11, 1978. He worked for years with the local deaf community and was instrumental in the International Catholic Deaf Association. He also served as a Boy Scout Assistant Scoutmaster, a Little League Coach, and an administrator of a Saugerties seniors' residence.

Deacon Bunyar was a loving father of two daughters, Rosemary Davis of Dexter Hill, PA, and Kathleen Bunyar of the Bronx, and three sons, Michael of Montreal, Quebec, James of Brushton, NY, and John Bunyar of Cairo, NY; and a brother, Robert Bunyar of Wichita, KS and sister, Florence Bauer of Melbourne, FL. He is also survived by five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday April 19, 2016 at St. Mary's of the Snow RC Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary of the Snow Churchyard. Friends may call Monday, April 18, 2016 from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm at St. Mary's of the Snow RC Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Masses be offered for Deacon Perry Bunyar or donations made to St. Mary of the Snow RC Church.
