OBITUARY Highwoods ? On Sunday, January 13, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer, David Fox died at home, surrounded by family and friends. He was 61 years old, an area resident since 1998. Born July 1, 1951, in Waukeshaw, WI, he was the son of Margaret Fuchs Vacula and the late Edward Vacula. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee in 1978 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. On October 29, 2000, he married Marjorie Leopold, a teacher for Ulster BOCES. He earned his living as a designer and carpenter. Dave was a master craftsman with knowledge of all of the building trades; he restored and remodeled many area homes. His design process began with eliciting clients? descriptions of their everyday needs and uses of space. The finished products of his workmanship provide enduring pleasure. A renaissance man, a reader, and a hands -on craftsman, Dave was a life-long learner, naturalist, and artist in several mediums, including landscape painting. He was generous with his extensive knowledge and formidable problem solving skills. He imparted to many a deeper appreciation of the natural world. He was also a serious hobbyist, enjoying golf, ice hockey, and race cars. In addition to his wife, survivors include stepson, David Rosen, of New York City; mother Margaret, in Franklin, WI; two sisters, Jeanne Vacula of Hales Corners, WI and Judy Schendlinger of Middleton, WI; two nieces, Reena Bolnick-Horowitz of Brooklyn, NY, and Melissa Breitenstein of Hales Corners; a nephew, Brian Vacula of Hales Corners; his beautiful dog, Lily. A memorial service is planned for 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 5 Highwoods Road. This is the home Dave redesigned and renovated for his family.
