Palenville – Daniel A. Gersbeck passed suddenly on April 15, 2020 at the age of 79. Son of Jean Portolano, he grew up and lived in Brooklyn, and also spent much of his time, and eventual retirement, in Saugerties. He had a distinguished career as a teamster working for Canada Dry and at many construction sites across New York City.

His devoted wife of 45 years, Eileen Clancy, passed on May 27, 2009. He is survived by his two sisters, Martha and Patricia; sister and brother-in-laws, Kathleen and Jimmy, John and Patricia; nephews and nieces, John, Michael, and Colleen, Kelly, Kristy, and Patrick, Daniel and Robert, Tom, Andrew, and Brian; and grand nephews and nieces, Matthew, Gage, Ashley, Zachery, Megan, Stephen, and Joseph, Kyle, Daniel, Nicholas, Zachary, and Hannah, Deana, Curtis, and Farrah, Sean, Hagan, and Shea, Drew and Hope; and several great-grand nephews and nieces.

Danny played Lynvet football and coached youth teams when he was younger. He enjoyed watching football games on T.V., attending his nephew's games in person, and supporting his wife's devotion for the Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed vacations in Europe and New England, and being surrounded by his family and friends at any gathering.

Danny and Eileen had a very successful marriage and shared their love with all they knew. They never missed important milestones in loved ones' lives – graduations, sporting events, communions, confirmations, weddings, baptisms, and the all-around good party.

Danny was many things to all. He was an uncle, brother, son, friend, and devout spouse. He was a principled and giving man who had a strong belief in his Catholic faith. His constant generosity could always be counted on as well as his love for his family. Danny fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. He will be missed greatly.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., but are private due⁸ to the current COVID-19 crisis. Interment will be on Saturday at the Palenville Cemetery.
