Saugerties – Charles R. Taylor, Jr. died suddenly Monday July 11. He was 72 years old.
Born October 31, 1943 in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of Charles Sr. and Anna Mae Castle. In 1963 he graduated Drexel School of Electronics in Philadelphia. In 1999 after 34 years of service he retired from IBM where he was employed as an electrical engineer and computer programmer.
A veteran of the US Army during Vietnam, he served from 1966 until1968. Charlie was also a member and past commander of Lamouree – Hackett Post #72 American Legion in Saugerties. He was a former Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 131 BSA in Saugerties. Charlie was very active in the community, in addition to the American Legion; he worked as an election inspector at Grant D. Morse School during every election day. He also worked at The Kiwanis Ice Rink and Cantine Field. An avid collector and dealer of knives and swords he was a fixture at gun shows and flea markets. He enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing and landscaping.
Survivors include three children, David Taylor of Jacksonville, FL, Scott Taylor and his wife Natalie of WylieTX, and Cynthia Taylor Vargas of New Oxford, PA; seven grandchildren, Kylin, Kieri, Shaylene, Joshua, Nadia, Ilaiza and Ryan; and two sisters, Barb Hoffler andArlene Taylor.
Funeral services will be held 8:00 PM Saturday, July16, 2016 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc. in Saugerties. Military Honors will be accorded 8:30 am Monday July 18 at the American Legion Veterans Park and interment will follow immediately in the Gerald B. Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. Friends may call Saturday 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Buono Funeral Service, Inc.
