Saugerties – Bruce Dederick died Monday , February 2, 2015 at home after a long illness. He was 79 years old.

Born March 9, 1935 at Beaverkill Farm in Saugerties, he was the son of Jansen and Agnes Kneher Dederick. He attended LeTourneau Tech in Longview Texas and Miami University where he studied engineering, before returning to Saugerties.

Bruce started life as a dairy farmer. At 23, he started trucking as an owner-operator. He founded 5D Enterprises with his wife Dorothy for commercial construction, steel erecting, trucking, and computer installation in concrete redi-mix plants.

In 1978 he was Clerk of the Works for the Town of Saugerties, where he supervised the building of the Senior Citizens' Center, the Cantine Field Pavilion, and the Highway Garage on Churchland Road. He was also responsible for the draining of Cantine Field so it could be utilized for buildings and playing fields.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his two daughters, Wendy Dederick of Coxsackie and Lisa Dederick of San Antonio TX: his son Bruce Dederick, Jr of Catskill; his grandson Matthew: two brothers, Jansen Dederick, Jr of North Carolina and Wayne Dederick of Saugerties; and two sisters Marcia Lawrence of Florida and Sandra Dederick of Catskill. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties, NY. Friends may call Saturday from Noon until 4:00 PM at Buono Funeral Service, Inc.
