OBITUARY Saugerties – Albert J. Straub died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Woodland Pond in New Paltz. He was 87 years old. Born March 8, 1927 in Scranton, Pa, he was the son of Charles and Augusta Bentler Straub. On December 4, 1948 he married the former Erika Ebert, who died June 13, 2012. They were married for more than 63 years. During WWII, Albert joined the US Navy from which he was honorably discharged. At the age of 18 he joined the US Army Air Corp. He retired from the US Air Force in 1965 after 20 years of service, most of which was spent in the Strategic Air Command. He then went on to work as an inventory control specialist for both Ferroxcube and IBM. An avid hunter, he was a member of both the Ridge Runner Rod and Gun Club and the Saugerties Fish & Game Club. He particularly enjoyed and spent a great deal of time traveling with his wife Survivors include three children, Helen Bryndza of Norristown, PA, Albert Straub of Scranton, PA, and Cindy Straub & her husband Joseph Joy of Saugerties; 7 grandchildren, John and Steve Bryndza, Chad and Darin Smith, and Jordan, Jesse, and James Joy; and 4 great-grandchildren, He was pre-deceased by his daughter, Sandra Smith, two grandsons, Barrett and Brandon Dederick, and his granddaughter Janea Brown Straub. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties, NY. Interment with full military honors will follow in Katsbaan Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Buono Funeral Service, Inc. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Post 72 American Legion in Saugerties.
