OBITUARY Saugerties ? Alan J. Knowles died Monday, August 1, 2011 at The Pines in Catskill, NY. He was 74 years old. Born August 14, 1936 in Queens, Al was the son of Eugene and Elizabeth Knowles. A retired bus driver for Mt. View Lines in Coxsackie, he also worked as a substitute teacher at Saugerties High School. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Saugerties Knights of Columbus and an original reorganizing member of the Ulster Division Ancient Order of Hibernians. A parishioner of St. Mary of the Snow, where he also served as an usher. In addition to his daughter, Diana Conklin of Kearyville, WV; his granddaughter, Amanda Whitehead of Kearyville; and his grandson Christopher Whitehead of Glasco; Al is survived by many friends, brother knights and fellow Hibernians. Funeral services were held 10:00 AM Friday, August 4, 2011 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, NY. Deacon Donald Trees of St. Mary of the Snow Church officiated. Interment with full military honors took place in Blue Mountain Cemetery.
