Saugerties – Roderick J. Stanfield, Sr, 93 of Saugerties, NY died Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Northern Dutchess Hospital after a brief illness. He was born July 16th, 1928 to the late Jerome and Margaret (Kirkup) Stanfield in Highland Mills, NY. Rod attended Central Valley High School, Delhi University and Veterans Vocational School upon discharge from the United States Army Air Corp. He proudly served his country with the United Sates Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in Tripoli. Rod retired from the New York State Thruway Authority after 34 years as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He was the former constable in the Town of Kingston as well as the former Highway Superintendent in Sawkill, NY. He was a life member of the Mount Marion Fire Department Serving as a past Commissioner and past Fire Police Captain with a total of 73 years in fire services. Rod was an Avid outdoorsman and loved trout fishing, hunting, 4 wheeling and camping. In his younger years he played softball in the SAA league as a pitcher. Rod is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, CoraMae (Studler) Stanfield and children Roderick “Rick” Stanfield, Jr. (Diana Potter), Lynn Stanfield-Vroman (Rodney), Ronald B. Stanfield and Melanie Prouty, along with his beloved furry friend Mollie. Also surviving are six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Rod is also survived by a brother Walter Stanfield, Sister Norma Sjuve, sister-in-law Ann Stanfield, and brother and sister-in-law Richard and Alice Jane Studler, and sister-in-law Alice Marie Studler. He was pre-deceased by his son Robert B. Stanfield, grandson Ryan J. Stanfield, daughter-in-law Peg Stanfield as well as his brother Noel Stanfield, brother-in-law Kjell Sjuve, sister-in-law Janice Stanfield and brother-in-law Albin and Donald Studler. The family would like to thank Dr. Samuel Katz, MD of Northern Dutchess Hospital for his kindness and compassion during his stay. Cremation services are under the direction of Buono Funeral Service, Inc, Saugerties, NY At Rod’s request there will be no other services. Interment will take place at a later date in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Saugerties, NY.
