Peter Grose

Peter Rudolf Grose, 61, of Saugerties, NY, died at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston on Thursday, April 30, 2009, with his family at his side. Born in Straubing, Germany on August 1, 1947, he was the son of Emma T. (Terri) Sumpter of Saugerties and the late Foster C. Grose. In addition to his mother, his daughter, Kathryn T. Grose of Waterford, NY, his sisters Linda Linic of Kingston, NY, Cynthia Sumpter of Saugerties and Julia Simon of Port Orchard, Washington; brothers Steven Sumpter of Saugerties and Thomas Sumpter of Saugerties; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Jessica. Also surviving is his stepfather Russell Sumpter and his wife Trini of Tucson, Arizona. He is also survived by his wife. Peter was a graduate of Saugerties High School, class of 1966 and attended Ulster County Community College. A veteran of the United States Army, he served from 1966 to 1969, including tours of duty in Italy and Viet Nam. A licensed optician, Peter began his career at Sterling Optical. He was also employed by Empire Vision Center in Kingston and Albany. Prior to his death he was employed in the Vision Center at the Wal-Mart store in Catskill. He was an avid hiker and fisherman, climbing most of the Catskill Mountains with the local hiking club. He also enjoyed fishing in the many lakes and streams of the Adirondacks. Visiting hours will be 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, NY. His funeral service will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 100 Market Street, Saugerties, NY on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Edward Schreiber officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
