Cementon – Joseph A. “Coby” Peckovitch died Wednesday August 16, 2017 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. He was 85 years old. Born October 26, 1931, he was the son of Joseph A. and Mary Vicevich Peckovitch. On Novembe 15, 1953 he married the former Patricia Mower. In 1992 he retired from the US Postal Service where he served as Postmaster in Windham, NY and previously as Postmaster in both Palenville and Cementon. Joseph was a member of the US Navy from 1949 until 1952 and served aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Valley Forge. He was a member of Sullivan-Teator Post #770 Veterans of Foreign Wars and BPO Elks Lodge #1341 in Catskill as well as The Cementon Sportsmen’s Club. He was also a member of the National Association of Postmasters. In addition to his wife, survivors include his children Marilyn Farrell and her husband John of Athens, Joseph Peckovitch Jr. and his wife Michelle of Cementon, and John Peckovitch and his wife Rene of Catskill; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his siblings, John Pekovich, Catherine Pekovitch, and Natalie Maclary. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM September 8, 2017 at the Town of Catskill Cemetery. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties, NY.
