Port Ewen ? Janice Ann Veltrie lost a long and courageous three year battle with cancer on Monday, March 19, 2007 at Benedictine Hospital. She was 47 years old. She was born July 17, 1959 in Kingston, the daughter of Joseph A. and Janet Barca Veltrie. Janice attended Saugerties Central Schools and received her Bachelors Degree from SUNY Oneonta. She received her Master?s Degree from SUNY New Paltz. She taught at St. Joseph?s School in Kingston for two years and for the last 23 years has been a teacher at Wallkill Middle School. At Wallkill she was a night school teacher, coordinated the detention program and was an advisor to the Math Team. She was the cheerleading coach for Wallkill Middle and High School. She was a longstanding member of the Benefit Trust Board of the Wallkill Teacher?s Association as well as a member of the WTA negotiating team. She was a member of the Math Matrix Committee, a mentor for new math teachers, and a member of the committee for math initiatives for new technology. She was a regular presenter at Superintendent conference days and served on numerous Building and District Committees. She was choir member at many local churches including St. Mary?s and St. Joseph?s in Kingston, Immaculate Conception and St. John?s. She sang in many Christmas Cantatas at Mount St. Alphonsus. She also coordinated Christmas gifts for needy children for the Ulster County Children?s Services and Staff. In addition to her parents of Saugerties, she is survived by two brothers, Joseph A. Veltrie II and his wife Sue of Wake Forest, NC and James A. Veltrie and his wife Hope of Saugerties; seven nieces and nephews, Stephanie Brown, Jessica Veltrie, Joseph A. Veltrie III, Anthony J. Veltrie, Joshua Veltrie, Lucas Veltrie, and Rebecca Veltrie; two aunts, Paula Genthner and her husband Bert of Saugerties, and Maureen Barca of Milford, CT; her great-aunt and great uncle Anna and Daniel Barca of Staten Island and her great-aunt Susan Aiello of Glasco; and several cousins. A Funeral procession will form 9:30 AM, Friday March 23, 2007 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, NY and then proceed to St. Joseph?s RC Church in Glasco where at 10:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Rev. Monsignor Charles Zanotti, Pastor of St. Joseph?s will officiate. Interment will follow immediately in St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery, Barclay Heights. Friends may call Thursday 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties. In Lieu of Flowers the family suggest donations be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 95 Schwenk Dr., Kingston, NY 2401 or St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
