Saugerties ? Dr. Daniel E. DeSole died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Home. He was 79 years old. Dr. DeSole was born August 12, 1928 in Mt. Kisco, NY the son of Joseph and Antoinette Daniello DeSole. He was a veteran of the US Army serving as a code breaker for the Army Security Agency during WWII. He also served in Guam. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. At the start of the civil rights movement in the 1960?s, he was an active supporter of the Brothers, a civil rights organization in the Capital District, and traveled to North Carolina as a volunteer for a voter registration project. He was both a Psychiatrist and an internist. He practiced Internal Medicine in Mahopac. He was the resident Psychiatrist at the Matteawan State Hospital. He also worked as a Psychiatrist for the Sullivan County Community Mental Health, Gateway Industries in Kingston, the Veterans Administration and Albany Medical Center. He was an accomplished author of numerous professional articles. Danny was an avid vegetable gardener, reader and traveler. He was a history enthusiast with a particular interest in the Roman Empire, our founding fathers and the U. S. Civil War Era. His passion was working with people to give them hope and joy in living even under extreme disability and hardship. Survivors include his life-long companion Elisabeth Krisjanis of Saugerties; two daughters, Lauren DeSole of Sayville, NY and Leah DeSole of Manhattan, NY; his ex-wife Gloria DeSole of Albany, NY; his brother, Samuel Desole of Poughkeepsie and his wife Mary Margaret; his sister, Jean Osborne, Sebring Fl.; two brothers-in-law, Morgan Coutant and Robert Ganung Sr.. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Cory, Nick, Ben, Natalie and Jake. He was pre-deceased by three sisters, Madeline DeRosa, Helen Coutant and Josephine Ganung. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Main Street Chapel, Saugerties, NY. Rev. Robert Ganung, Jr. will officiate. Cremation will follow at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Saturday 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday at noon at Buono Funeral Service, Inc. Family suggests donations in Dan?s name made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
